THE TRUTH ABOUT ALCOHOL, DRUG ADDICTION AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE AGING

As you age into your 40's and 50's, if you still continue to be addicted to alcohol you will notice that it takes a smaller amount  to get you high. There will seem to come a natural tendency to drink  less as you mellow with age. An alcoholic who used to drink 2 cases of beer a day will find out that as he or she enters into middle age they will naturally cut down their consumption all due to the normal aging process. Now this may seem like a good thing, but in reality it's not. The aging alcoholic will find that they need to only drink one or two drinks to become drunk. The reason for this is that their body no longer has the tolerance that they once did when they were younger. And when the alcoholic reaches this point in their life they need to be fearful of alcohols effects on the deterioration of their aging body. It is when the heavy drinker turns 40 that they will begin to notice health problems from their prolonged drinking career. Organs will begin to fail and heart disease will rapidly settle in, diabetes cancer and stroke become a real possibility in the middle aged heavy drinker. An alcoholic who is a heavy drinker from young man or young woman to their middle ages will also most likely find out that they are in the third stage of alcoholism. Alcoholism has three stages. Thats why the medical community has classified alcoholism a disease. Because it's progressive. This third stage is the most deteriorating stage. The aging alcoholic will have blood vessels protruding from their skin on their nose and face, skin will look leathery and weathered, also discolored and thin. The average late stage alcoholic will lose 15 to 20 years from their normal lifespan due to alcohols ravaging effects on the organs and the body. This should be a good reason to give up drinking.
